So you think you might want to be (or are?) a WITCH? COOL!
So you are thinking about becoming a witch? Have you been drawn to the path like the rest of us? Curious about what it takes to be a witch? Well it's not as complicated as you would think. Wicca is what I call the "do it your self non-religion, religion." It is a wonderful and peaceful path, that is nonjudgmental, loving, nondenominational, and will bring you a lot of personal fulfillment if you study it correctly. In fact you really don't have to study anything at all, but of course it helps to know what kind of spiritual path that you're on, if you'd like to indeed follow it. I teach my apprentices that any spiritual path begins with seeking within. Just as many people acknowledge their religion and how they came to it, whether through family influence, familiarity, perhaps someone recruited them into a church, Wicca is different because we don't have missionaries out recruiting witches, and no Wiccan organization or coven runs itself universally the same. In fact, many Wiccan's start out practicing completely solo because of the lack of community that is available to them. But there are more of us than you think out there, if you just seek you will find! Thanks to the Internet, it's easy to reach out to fellow Wiccan's if you don't want to practice solo. There is a multitude of covens and pagan temples in every state around the world that you can join if indeed that coven is open to the public. Many are, some aren't, but where there is a will there's a way, and if you don't or can't find a coven to join, start one yourself. We Wiccan's need leaders too!
So the first step is to learn a little bit about this path, which is really about getting in touch with nature, and loving and appreciating nature's energy and vibration. The great thing about Wicca is you can also be congruently a Christian if you wanted to believe in Christ or any other god or goddess, while practicing witchcraft at the same time... the only problem you may run into is the fact that your fellow Christians might not approve, but we Wiccan's bless ALL paths to God and do not judge. Wicca and witchcraft to some are the same, and to others they are different. Calling yourself a witch, and/or saying you are a Wiccan, is really up to you and how you would like to define yourself. Wicca is a more formal name for a witchcraft practitioner, or you can simply call yourself a witch; once you have decided to anyhow. Some witches decide to actually take on a high priestess mentor to train them in the ways of the path, others study on their own via the Internet, or read books on the subject until they feel are ready to practice magic in their lives and live the path. Others take a more formal route such as diving into a course as the one here on my website that takes you through all the basics of Wicca and witchcraft and all the soul-searching you would need to improve your life through the path. They say it takes a year and a day to become an official witch, but in this day and age things are a bit different. Just as you can instantly become a Christian if you decide one day that's what you believe, whether you get baptized or not, inducting yourself into the Wiccan way is very similar, it's simply a choice to do so. No ONE hierarchy is dictating to you whether or not you are eligible to be a witch or not. There are no initiations, baptisms, or sacrificial acts, in order to become one of us, which, in fact there are not even any rules to follow, except one. That is "harm none and do with thy will, but remember what you do comes back to you threefold."
As you learn the ways, vibrations, and harmonies of the path you will know which direction to go and how far to take it on your own, your curiosity and creativity will lead you in the right direction, just like with any other religion. How far and how much you practice it is all up to you. Some simply dabble a few times a year during the full moon or at Samhain with lighting of candles and incense with bit of spell casting, and other witches make this an entire way of life and the centerpiece of everything that they do. Again very similar to how any other person would express themselves in their chosen religion. So if you think you might be ready to call yourself a witch, whether because your family were witches, or you just find it fascinating, or you've done your hard work and studied the path, welcome to it! And if you have any questions you can email us here at on the website! And if you would like to take our course it is always ready and waiting, we welcome all new witches the path with open arms and hearts, blessed be!
